About the event
Directed by Anja Grossklaus (violin, accordion, voice), who has brought together a group of musicians to interpret Schubert's songs and other 'wintery' songs. As well as martin john milner (guitars, voice, poetry) there will be bass, flute, percussion and mezzo-soprano voice.
Schubert knew he was going to die of syphilis when he composed the Winterreise cycle, so the songs carry the weight of that knowledge into themes of life, love and death. Intensely beautiful and melancholy, the songs allow for modern interpretations because they are so well built. Hat's off to Schubert and his poet lyricist William Müller!
